So often our personal or family finances stress us well beyond the helpful.

Unfortunately stress from financial matters cause much damage.  Divorce, suicide, mental breakdowns, family fallouts and much more are often the results of sustained financial stress.

So what can you do? Have you ever thought to laugh?

I’m not being flippant; laughter is more important than we often give credit. Stress from financial pressure is common and can draw our attention to the importance of an issue but when was the last time you had a great laugh?

Laughter is not a new fad or recent discovery.

Viktor Frankl in Man’s search for Meaning, which chronicles his experiences as a concentration camp inmate said, “It is well known that humour, more than anything else in the human make-up, can afford an aloofness and an ability to rise above any situation, even if only for a few seconds.”

Laughter’s healing properties are well known and documented. There are even laughter clubs and many people attest to the benefits.

Of course if you haven’t had a great laugh in a while then it may feel awkward or forced but give it a go! Money isn’t everything so don’t let finance stress get you down.

Here are some tips:

  1. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
  2. Surround yourself with people who help, especially in the stressful areas of life.
  3. Plan and DO something that makes you laugh every week.
